A small business website in Northampton costs anywhere from £30 a month on a pay-monthly plan to £5,000 or more for a custom-coded agency build. Most owner-run businesses end up paying between £1,000 and £2,500 for a one-off site from a local designer. Juno builds bespoke websites for £850, one-off, live in 14 days, and you own it outright.

Those are real numbers, not a guess. We went through the published prices of every Northampton web designer and agency we could find in September 2026. Here is what the market actually looks like, so you can judge any quote you get against it.

    What Northampton providers actually charge

Most agencies in town do not publish prices at all. Rak Design, Wave Seven, IHM and Tim Keay all ask you to get in touch for a quote, which is fair enough for bespoke work but makes comparing hard. Of the ones that do publish, this is the spread.

What you are actually buying at each level

The price differences are not random. Each band is a different kind of product.

Pay monthly, £30 to £50. You never pay a lump sum, and the fee covers hosting and small changes. The catch is in the ownership. On most of these plans the site is theirs, not yours, and if you stop paying it goes dark. Digital Market Stall is the honest exception with a £600 buyout. Over three years £50 a month is £1,800, so it is not the cheap option, it is the spread-out option.

Budget one-off, £150 to £950. A template with your logo and words dropped in, usually built quickly. Fine if you need something to exist by Friday. The copy is normally yours to supply, and the design will look like the other hundred sites on the same template.

Small business one-off, £1,000 to £2,500. This is where most Northampton designers and freelancers sit, and it is a reasonable place to be. A WordPress site designed around your business, mobile-friendly, with the SEO basics done. Expect three to ten weeks, and expect to be asked for a maintenance fee on top, typically £45 to £60 a month.

Agency build, £3,500 to £5,000 and up. Strategy sessions, keyword research, multiple revision rounds, sometimes custom code instead of a template. Worth it if you are a bigger firm with a team to manage the project. For a sole trader or a five-person business it is usually more site than you need and more meetings than you want.

Where Juno's £850 fits, and why it is that number

We charge £850 for a bespoke website and £400 for a single landing page. Both one-off. It goes live 14 days after payment, and the site, the domain and the hosting are yours completely. There is no monthly fee to keep it online.

It is cheaper than the one-off market because of how it is built, not because less goes into it. AI does the heavy lifting on production, and a real person writes your copy from what you tell us on the call, designs the pages, and makes the decisions. That is what took a full agency a month and a £3,000 invoice, done in two weeks.

If you want the site looked after and worked on afterwards, that is an optional care package or ongoing SEO from £200 a month, and you can stop either whenever you like. Plenty of clients take the £850 site and run it themselves. nourish in Duston went live in 14 days and now ranks first in Northampton for açai. Choice Wills went from a site that did nothing to first on Google locally for wills.

The questions to ask before you pay anyone

Whoever you go with, including us, get straight answers to these before money moves.

Do I own the site, the domain and the hosting when it is done? If the answer involves the word "licence" or "as long as you remain a customer", walk.

Who writes the words? Copy is the part that turns visitors into enquiries, and it is the part most quotes quietly leave to you.

What happens after launch? A one-off price with a mandatory £50 a month maintenance fee is not a one-off price.

When exactly will it be live, and what do you need from me to hit that date? A vague answer here means a long build.

What is not included? Booking systems, payment, membership areas and anything custom are almost always extra. That is fine, as long as it is said up front.

    The short version

Budget £1,000 to £2,500 for a proper one-off site from a Northampton designer, or £30 to £50 a month if you would rather never pay a lump sum and do not mind not owning it. Juno is £850 one-off, live in 14 days, yours to keep. If you want to know what your site would need, book a free call and we will tell you, including if a £30 a month plan is genuinely all you need.
